The sport of target shooting is both an elite athlete sport contested at the Olympic level and a recreational activity which is truly a lifetime sport for all. It involves proficient tests of fine motor skills while maintaining balance, accuracy, precision and efficient use of time. Target shooting mainly consists of three main categories of sporting equipment: rifle, pistol and shotgun – with various disciplines within those categories that include mixed team, and gender-specific individual competition. The target shooting sports are one of the first sports to achieve gender parity and also include athletes with a disability. The Ontario Winter Games specifically focuses on the disciplines of Air Rifle and Air Pistol.
